One set of doors is locked for the winter season to prevent cold drafts from entering on the north side of the building and heat running constantly, explained via the signs.

Please confirm with the fire code official or fire marshal that locking a door with an illuminated EXIT sign and preventing egress is permissible. The paper sign does not supersede the marked EXIT sign. Thanks.

Confirmed this is ok. The exit sign will be covered to avoid any confusion.

The occupant load of this area definitely does not require two separate exits. Applying blue tape over the illuminated portion of the exit sign is not a good idea. It modifies the sign from its testing approval. Next time electricians are working at the park have them disconnect power to the sign and blank it off. Install a sign over this set of doors “Not An Exit”. This will meet code. Because of the space heater hanging in front of it, you really have to look for the exit sign.
